While their compatriots were doing the business in the men’s competition, Great Britain’s women’s team were dominating their category of the FIM International Six Days’ Enduro.
Always a fiercely contested competition, the ISDE Women’s World Trophy never disappoints when it comes to close, competitive racing and this year’s edition staged at Le Puy-en-Velay in southern France was no exception.
Great Britain’s fast females had never won the ultimate team accolade since its inception in 2007 but led by soon-to-be FIM Women’s Enduro World Champion Jane Daniels – Fantic with incredible support from Nieve Holmes – Sherco and Rosie Rowett – KTM, the trio were in fine form.
Setting a furious pace from the first day onwards and pouring the pressure on defending champions the USA, Great Britain simply did not let up all week.
When American Brandy Richards’ - KTM competition unfortunately ended on day four, the British women were able to capitalise and held a very healthy fourteen-minute lead over nearest rivals France going into the final day.
However, it was by no means game-over with the bar-banging Cross Test still to be negotiated, but Britain held firm to seal an historic victory by over fifteen minutes and secure the bragging rights for the next twelve months as the best female Enduro nation on the planet.
Hosts France ended the six days of competition in second with Australia completing the podium in third.
The cherry on top of the cake was Daniel’s overall performance which saw the twenty-eight-year-old claim the individual honours by a commanding two minutes and nineteen seconds from the USA’s Korie Steede – KTM with Spain’s Mireia Badia – Rieju rounding out the top three.
